The alleged assault happened inside the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

SEATTLE — Dallas native and Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested Sunday afternoon at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman, during a “heated” argument, records show.

According to a police report from the Port of Seattle Police Department, on July 27, security footage at the airport showed that Richardson and Coleman had gotten into a verbal argument while exiting security screening.

Once outside the security area, the report said that Richardson followed Coleman, getting close to him several times as he appeared to be walking away. At one point, Richardson is seen then pushing Coleman, sending him into a column, the document stated. Still, Coleman tried to walk away, but she kept bumping into him and once again, pushed him hard enough that “it sends him flying a few feet away.”

The police report says that after the second push, Coleman returns to the security area to try to get help, but Richardson kept following him and even threw a pair of headphones at him, hitting him.

After officers reviewed the security footage, the document said they found probable cause to arrest Richardson on a charge of domestic violence assault.

According to the police report, Coleman didn’t want to participate in the investigation and “declined to be a victim.” However, Richardson was booked into the South Correctional Entity Jail, where she stayed until she was released Monday afternoon.

Just last year, Richardson competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a gold medal in the 4x100m relay and claiming silver in the 100m sprint.
