Federal, local officials must work together on border: Sheriff

() President Donald Trump’s actions regarding the border have gotten legal pushback, with a judge recently saying his administration may have violated court orders with recent deportation flights to El Salvador.

Trump, though, has defended these measures.

Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels of Arizona says he has seen fewer pursuits on the border since Trump came into office.

“We used to have two to 10 pursuits a day. We’re down to one or two a week,” Dannels, a Republican, said. “Big difference there.”

In addition, Border Patrol is reporting a 94% drop in illegal border crossings compared to last year.

As the cartels restrategize what they’re going to do, Dannels said, he has been talking to officials at the Department of Homeland Security as well as border czar Tom Homan.

“When it comes to what’s going on, Washington, D.C, we have a lot of engagement,” Dannels said. “We’re engaged. We’re working together. I said this all along when state, local and federal work together, we best serve our country.”
