Shocking Altercation: Woman Allegedly Bites Off Another's Thumb in Violent Encounter

A troubling incident unfolded in Wichita Falls, leading to the arrest of a young woman following a violent confrontation that resulted in severe injury. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, police took Kambrasia Latina Janice Penigar, a 21-year-old resident of Wichita Falls, into custody. She faces charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily harm after reportedly admitting to biting off part of another woman’s thumb during a dispute the previous month.

Penigar is currently held in the Wichita County Jail, with her bond set at $100,000. The charge stems from an altercation reported on October 12, 2025. Officers from the Wichita Falls Police Department responded to a call at the Washington Village Apartments, where they met with Penigar to discuss the alleged assault.

According to the affidavit, during their conversation with the officers, Penigar recounted her version of events. She explained that the incident occurred while she was carving sticks near the staircase of the victim’s apartment. The victim reportedly confronted her about the mess she was making, which led to the altercation.

This case highlights the serious consequences that can arise from disputes that escalate into violence. As the legal process unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and the devastating impact of such incidents on the individuals involved.

Police said Penigar told them another woman, whom she identified as the victim’s daughter, heard them arguing and came downstairs. She said she began fighting the victim’s daughter when another person began trying to separate them. She said she and the victim’s daughter got hold of each other’s hair.

According to the affidavit, Penigar told police that the victim attempted to reach around everyone and hit her when the victim’s thumb ended up in her mouth. She told police that at that point, she bit the victim’s thumb off.

Police said they asked Penigar if she actually bit the victim’s thumb off. They said Penigar affirmed that she did and pointed to the blood on the ground.

Court documents show that police then made contact with the victim at United Regional. Officers spoke with the victim, who said she confronted Penigar about the mess, which led to a verbal argument. The victim said her daughter then came downstairs and got into an altercation with Penigar.

Officers said the victim told them that she attempted to pull her daughter away from Penigar while another bystander attempted to pull Penigar away. She said that while she was pulling her daughter away, her thumb went into Penigar’s mouth, and Penigar bit it off.

According to the affidavit, officers observed that the tip of the victim’s right thumb was missing just before the first knuckle. Police said the victim informed them that medical staff had advised that they would not be able to reattach the missing portion of her thumb.

The victim was eventually transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.

According to court documents, another officer spoke with the victim about the incident. The victim told the officer that she’d had previous issues with Penigar leaving a mess and that on the day of the incident, she simply asked Penigar to clean up after herself. She said that was when Penigar became angry and began yelling at her.

The officer said the victim told them that the other female involved in the altercation was her sister rather than her daughter. The officer also said the victim alleged that Penigar put her mouth around the victim’s thumb.

The affidavit said the victim told police that after Penigar bit down on her thumb, she spat out the portion of her thumb and began laughing about biting her thumb off.

Court documents showed that police obtained medical records from both United Regional and John Peter Smith Hospital. Police said that both records indicated that surgeons were consulted at both facilities, but that the missing portion of the victim’s thumb could not be reattached.
