A man from Los Angeles is currently in custody after allegedly attempting to launch a self-described “terrorist attack” on a federal building in downtown Los Angeles. The incident, which took place on Monday, involved the suspect reportedly throwing homemade Molotov cocktails at the building. This act is believed to stem from his opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies and deportations, as confirmed by Fox News.

According to investigators, the suspect tried to ignite the Molotov cocktails, but fortunately, they failed to detonate. Upon his arrest, officials discovered that he possessed additional devices of the same nature. Miraculously, no injuries were reported during the incident.

The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is set to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon, where formal charges are expected to be filed against him. Federal investigators have indicated that his motivations were linked to his anger at the federal government’s immigration enforcement activities.

Following his arrest, the suspect allegedly expressed his grievances to federal agents, accusing them of “separating families” and declaring, “this is a terrorist attack anyways,” along with other expletive-laden remarks.

The targeted federal building, which houses the U.S. Attorney’s office, ICE, and other agencies, was the focal point of this alleged attack on December 1, 2025. The incident has prompted increased scrutiny and concern over security measures at federal buildings, particularly those involved in immigration enforcement.

Authorities said that before the suspect went to the federal building Monday morning, he intentionally lit his rented apartment on fire. Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded, and an arson investigator determined an accelerant was used in that fire.

The federal building in downtown Los Angeles houses the U.S. Attorney’s office and ICE, among other agencies, and is where the processing of many illegal immigrants takes place.

The suspect was accused of throwing one of the Molotov cocktails into a door marked as an employee entrance, investigators said, adding that the incendiary device broke into pieces, had charring on it and was believed to be lit on fire. The suspect then allegedly threw a second Molotov cocktail through a separate public door where people were lining up to go through security.

Investigators determined each Molotov cocktail was made of a breakable container and contained a wick. According to a test, the devices contained hand sanitizer or ethanol —considered capable of igniting.

The incident comes after hundreds of anti-ICE agitators were caught on video throwing trash cans and debris at officers near a government building in New York City on Saturday. Police confirmed multiple arrests were made in relation to that attack.
