The police stated that when the dog failed to attack, one assailant, in frustration, hurled the crew’s camera equipment to the ground, while another smashed the CBS2 Chicago live truck’s windshield.
By Monday evening, the live truck was still parked on Solidarity Drive with its windshield in pieces. The camera and tripod intended for the broadcast were left nearby, cordoned off by police tape.
The news photographer and reporter were not injured.
Chicago police were not confirming arrests, but according to CBS Chicago, three people were arrested in Brighton Park in connection with the incident, apparently after a police pursuit.
CBS2 Chicago addressed the incident in a statement Monday night, saying, “We are shocked and horrified by this crime and we are grateful that our journalists are safe.”
