A Long Island man has been arrested and jailed for allegedly shooting his sister in the head with a crossbow, a violent act he had reportedly been planning since December, according to police reports.

Samy Sedhom, aged 21, fired an arrow at his 28-year-old sister, striking the right side of her face and severely injuring her ear. The incident occurred outside their home in Lawrence around 9:23 p.m. on Friday, as the Nassau police disclosed on Tuesday.

According to court records cited by WABC, Sedhom lay in wait in a car parked across the street, targeting his sister as she returned from the gym. As she attempted to close the garage door, he launched the brutal assault.

Following the attack, Sedhom was apprehended on Friday. He allegedly confessed his intentions to the police, stating he had been plotting to kill his sister since Christmas.

Authorities discovered the arrow embedded in the garage’s back wall and confiscated additional items from Sedhom’s room, including a crossbow box, a samurai sword, and a MacBook, according to the report.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly told News 12 Long Island.

A “brother-sister rivalry” sparked the attack, Donnelly said, noting the siblings had been arguing over the temperature in the house.

“She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer,” she told the local news station.

Sedhom was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, tampering with physical evidence, and first-degree stalking.

He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, with an order of protection reportedly issued for his sister.

He is due back in court on Wednesday.
