The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Johnny McNutt, 53, following allegations that he shot an individual in the head.

FORT WHITE, Fla. — On Christmas Day, a shooting incident in Fort White resulted in the arrest of a man and left another individual hospitalized, as stated by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a residence on Cullen Avenue, where they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the CCSO.

The sheriff’s office has not yet released the identity or age of the victim, only noting that the individual is male. The victim was transported to the hospital with “critical” injuries, as highlighted in a news release issued by the agency on Friday afternoon.

Johnny McNutt, aged 53, was apprehended and subsequently arrested after admitting to the shooting, according to the CCSO.

An initial CCSO investigation revealed that the victim and McNutt had been in a physical fight earlier that day. Afterwards, the sheriff’s office said McNutt grabbed a gun and reapproached the victim, who was sitting in a chair, without warning, and shot him once in the head.

McNutt is charged with attempted second-degree murder.

First Coast News has requested the mugshot and arrest report for additional details.

Anyone with more information regarding this case is asked to contact investigators at 386-719-2005.
