Illegal immigrant allegedly severs man's thumb with machete at Georgia Christmas holiday party

A violent altercation at a Christmas gathering in Gainesville, Georgia, has drawn attention, involving two undocumented immigrants. Authorities from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported that the dispute escalated to a machete attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.

When patrol deputies arrived at the scene around 3 a.m., they discovered that an argument between 42-year-old Carlos Hernandez Nicolas and 38-year-old Jose Turcios Garcia had turned physical. As tensions flared, Hernandez Nicolas allegedly resorted to using a machete against Turcios Garcia.

The assault resulted in serious injury, with Turcios Garcia reportedly suffering the loss of his left thumb. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has documented this incident, underscoring the severity of the attack. The confrontation has cast a shadow over what was intended to be a festive occasion, highlighting the potential for violence even in celebratory settings.

During the fight, Hernandez Nicolas allegedly grabbed a machete and assaulted Turcios Garcia.

The victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for injuries that included an amputated left thumb. The HCSO said the machete used in the attack was later found at the scene.

Hernandez Nicolas was taken into custody and remains in jail without bond on a felony count of aggravated battery.

Turcios Garcia was released from the hospital after treatment of his injuries, and HCSO said he was jailed on a failure to appear charge. Both men were placed under immigration holds.
