Last week, Kiefer Sutherland, known for his role in “24,” found himself in legal trouble following an alleged confrontation with a ride-share driver.

WASHINGTON — Fresh insights have surfaced regarding the January 12 arrest of actor Kiefer Sutherland.

According to ABC News, which cited sources within law enforcement, Sutherland allegedly assaulted an Uber driver by repeatedly punching him and attempting to choke him, as claimed by the driver. The sources relayed to ABC News that the driver exited the vehicle in an effort to distance himself from the actor, suspecting Sutherland was under the influence during the encounter.

In an attempt to escape the situation, the Uber driver reportedly contacted 911, ABC News sources confirmed. Additionally, it was mentioned that the driver had a dash cam that might have recorded segments of the purported altercation.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated last week that their investigation concluded the 59-year-old Sutherland entered the ride-sharing vehicle, assaulted the driver, and issued “criminal threats toward the victim.” Sutherland was subsequently apprehended on suspicion of making felony criminal threats and was released after posting a $50,000 bail. Fortunately, no injuries necessitating medical attention were reported.

The actor’s first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2, according to jail records. He has not been charged yet.

Sutherland is best known for his role as Jack Bauer in the TV series “24”. He also has credits in the movie “Melancholia” and, most recently, in “Tinsel Town,” starring opposite Rebel Wilson.

He also starred in “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns” and appeared in two films directed by Rob Reiner, “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”

Sutherland is also the son of the late “Hunger Games” actor Donald Sutherland, who died in June 2024.
