Radio host's shock comments about Californians 'deserving' wildfires

Following the eruption of the Los Angeles fires, radio host Adam Carolla faced criticism for suggesting that liberals in the affected region had brought this upon themselves by voting Democrat.

Carolla, aged 60, attributed responsibility to California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for mishandling the situation. He implied that the outcome reflected the choices of the local residents, stating, ‘sort of get what we deserve’.

‘To all the residents in Malibu, typically Democratic, Palisades, primarily Democratic, Santa Monica, heavily Democratic: This is the result of your preferences,’ he expressed during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show.

‘You voted for these people. You’re sitting around right now going, how come the fire hydrants don’t work? Where’s the mayor? Why is she out of the country? What’s going on with the aqueduct?

‘You voted for these people. This is who you voted for.’

Carolla’s remarks divided opinions, with some pointing out that the scorched Pacific Palisades area heavily voted for Bass’s opponent Rick Caruso in the 2022 mayoral election – whom Carolla described as a ‘qualified, able-bodied businessman.’

The radio host went on to slam DEI hiring practices in Los Angeles emergency services, with scrutiny recently falling on LA’s first female fire chief’s stance on ‘focusing on diversity’ among firefighters.

It comes amid growing calls for embattled Democrat leaders including Newsom and Bass to resign following the wildfire crisis, as residents slam them for an apparent lack of preparedness.

In his appearance opposite Kelly, Carolla slammed Newsom’s approach to the wildfires and said Californians should have voted him out of office when he faced a recall effort in 2021.

‘Gavin Newsom, you know, got recalled essentially, and he still won,’ he said.

‘We had a choice between Rick Caruso for mayor, we ended up with Karen Bass. We sort of get what we deserve.’

Carolla continued: ‘You think it’s more important to have a woman of color versus a qualified person? You think it’s more important to have a lesbian running the fire department than a qualified person?

‘Well, you asked for it. You got it. Now, your house is on fire.’

The remarks divided viewers, with some agreeing that Democrat leaders mismanaged the crisis while others condemned Carolla for blaming victims of the fires.

‘It does not matter what party you are from, no one deserves what happened,’ one X user said in response.

‘But maybe everyone can work together and fox what is obviously not working and make the changes needing to be made.’

Another argued: ‘He’s not wrong. It’s always wrong to point the finger at people in suffering, but he’s certainly not wrong.

‘Bad decisions tend to lead to bad consequences. Gavin Newscum is the mother of all bad decisions.’

Carolla’s scathing rebuke of DEI in Los Angeles’ emergency services comes days after Kelly also laid into the practice on her popular show.

The former Fox News anchor said high winds and drought-like conditions that have fueled the fires are ‘predictable’ for the area, and argued not enough focus was put on important preventative measures in favor of diversity in hiring.

‘In recent years LA’s fire chief has made not filling the fire hydrants top priority. but diversity,’ she fumed earlier this week.

She referenced an interview in which LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley expressed her desire to boost the number of women and LGBTQ+ people in the fire service.

‘Who gives a s**t if the fire chief is gay I’m sorry but who gives a flying fig about who she likes to sleep with can you fight the f**king fires madam that’s the relevant question,’ Kelly continued

‘We don’t care about your lady parts and we don’t care who you want having access to them can you fight fires can you make sure there’s water in the fire hydrants?’
