A former Fox TV anchor, accused of murdering her elderly mother, has been deemed mentally unfit to face trial, according to a recent judicial ruling. This decision marks a significant development in the case involving Angelynn Mock, who was arrested last October in Wichita, Kansas, following the alleged fatal stabbing of her 81-year-old mother, Anita Avers.
Mock, who once graced the screens as a presenter for Fox 2, was formally charged in November with first-degree murder. The legal proceedings began after Avers was discovered with multiple stab wounds in her residence, sparking a high-profile investigation into the tragic incident.
In a decisive move this week, Sedgwick County District Judge Jeff Goering declared Mock incompetent to stand trial. This determination was based on a psychologist’s evaluation presented to the court, revealing that Mock suffers from schizophrenia, a mental disorder that affects her ability to participate in legal proceedings.
As reported by FirstAlert4, the case has been removed from the court’s docket, reflecting the impact of the psychological assessment on the judicial process. This ruling underscores the complexities involved when mental health issues intersect with the criminal justice system.
The report determined that Mock suffers from schizophrenia and the case was taken off the docket, according to FirstAlert4.
She was sent to Larned State Hospital for further evaluation and treatment, but could be brought back at a later time to stand trial for the death of her mother.
The journalist worked at Fox 2 as an anchor and reporter from March 2011 to February 2015, according to her LinkedIn page.
According to a probable cause affidavit seen by KAKE, her stepfather Barry told police that Mock was laid off after ‘an explosive situation involving alcohol’.

He also told police that Mock was originally diagnosed with bi-polar disorder that was later revised to schizoaffective disorder.
The report added that Mock would have outbursts but was never violent or threatening.
In one outburst just weeks before Avers died, Barry said that police were called and Mock was held for two weeks inside a hospital.
He said that Mock had in the past made statements like ‘they’re all robots’, and ‘they’re not real people’.
During a card game in the weeks before the incident, Barry told officers that she accused her family of hating her and added that she had hated everyone.
Avers was found in her bed with stab wounds to her face, neck, torso and arms, according to the outlet.
Officers uncovered multiple kitchen knives and a cheese grater spread out on a pillow next to Avers, all of which were covered in blood.
When asked what happened by another officer, Mock claimed her mother ‘came after her’ with a knife and the two fought.

She told police that after that alleged confrontation she went to her mother’s room to find her sharpening knives before claiming Avers chased her with a knife.
The document said that Mock confessed to the killing, tell an officer: ‘I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop.’
After being arrested and taken for a formal police interview, she added: ‘I had to kill that b**** to have my mom back any day.
‘I don’t even know who she is anymore. I know, I believe she’s the devil.’
Her mother’s autopsy found stab wounds to her heart, left lung, thyroid, her jugular vein and left carotid artery, as well as wounds to her arms.
Mock was also taken to hospital and treated for wounds to her hands and her inner right arm.
