A shooting near a Nebraska high school on Wednesday left one person injured, prompting police to quickly respond and secure the campus.
Officers were dispatched to Burke High School in Omaha after receiving reports of gunfire at approximately 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, shortly after classes began, KETV reported.
The incident occurred on school property but outside the high school building, according to Omaha Public Schools.
Police said the campus was secured shortly after 9 a.m. Eastern Time and confirmed that a firearm had been recovered.
The Omaha Police Department described the shooting as an “isolated incident between two people” and said the other person involved was believed to be in custody.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Burke High School building is secured at this time. There is no active threat to the school,” police said.
Authorities reported that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, while students inside the building remained safe.
Police lifted the school’s secure status at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time, allowing normal operations to resume.
