SAN DIEGO — At San Diego Comic-Con, you never know who you’ll see or what surprises are in store.

Slayer’s heavy metal guitarist Kerry King dropped by the “Shag” art booth at San Diego Comic-Con, surprising fans and signing exclusive artwork.

Known for his instantly recognizable mid-century modern aesthetic infused with tiki, lounge, and retro flair, artist Josh Agle, better known as “Shag,” already had a large group of fans roaming his booth.

The energy spiked when King made an unannounced appearance.

King stopped to admire a new Shag piece titled “The Summer of ’86,” which features the Slayer logo drawn across a journal held by a teenager surrounded by posters of iconic metal bands. The fine art print was an exclusive release for San Diego Comic-Con.

Admiring the piece, King signed a copy of the print and called the booth “super rad.”

Shag, who was busy greeting collectors and sketching for fans, said the experience was just another reminder of why he loves what he does.

“I basically make art seven days a week because it’s my favorite thing to do,” Agle said. “I just love working — that’s the thing.”

A limited number of fine art prints of “The Summer of ’86” are still available on Shag’s website.
