‘Smurfs’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the 2025 ‘Smurfs’ Movie Be Streaming Free on Paramount+?

Feeling blue? That might be because the 2025 Smurfs movie is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent tomorrow.

Helmed by Chris Miller, known for his work on Shrek the Third and Puss in Boots, with a screenplay crafted by Pam Brady, this new musical comedy for children serves as another revival of the franchise inspired by the 1950s The Smurfs comic series by Belgian artist Peyo. Grammy-award-winning singer Rihanna has taken on dual roles as both producer and the voice of Smurfette, the sole female Smurf in her group. The extensive voice lineup for the Smurfs film features John Goodman as Papa Smurf, along with others like James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, and Kurt Russell.

While it didn’t achieve the blockbuster status of some previous films in the series, this Smurfs installment still managed to bring in more than $90.4 million at the global box office. Paramount is now aiming to boost earnings further with the film’s premium video-on-demand release. However, before you dish out $25 to enjoy Smurfs from the comfort of your home, it’s worth noting that we anticipate it will be available for streaming on Paramount+, complimentary for subscribers, by the year’s end.

Where to watch the Smurfs 2025 movie on streaming:

Starting Tuesday, August 12 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which equates to 9 p.m. Pacific Time on August 11), Smurfs will be accessible for digital purchase across platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango Now, and others. Prices may differ based on the platform chosen, but on Amazon Prime, the movie is priced at $24.99 for purchase and $19.99 for rental. Upon renting, viewers will have a 48-hour window to watch the film once they press “play.”

Smurfs is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see Smurfs streaming on Paramount+ soon, because it is a Paramount movie.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.

When will the 2025 Smurfs movie be streaming free on Paramount Plus?

The Smurfs 2025 Paramount+ streaming date has not yet been announced. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Smurfs streaming on Paramount+ eventually, and we can make an educated as to when based on previous Paramount releases.

Another recent Paramount animated film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, was released on digital platforms one month after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Paramount+ about two months after opening in theaters.

If Smurfs follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie streaming on Paramount+ around mid-to-late September 2025.

But this is all speculation. If you want to watch the 2025 Smurfs movie right away, you can buy or rent the film online.
