In an exciting development for fans of dystopian narratives, Hulu has unveiled a brand-new trailer for “The Testaments,” a gripping series that continues the saga set in the totalitarian regime of Gilead. This new installment picks up after the events of the acclaimed series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” providing a fresh perspective on the turbulent world created by Margaret Atwood.

Adapted from Atwood’s novel, “The Testaments” centers on the lives of two young teenagers, Agnes and Daisy. Agnes, raised in the strict confines of Gilead, is dutiful and deeply pious, while Daisy is a recent convert from the world beyond Gilead’s borders. Their journey unfolds within the oppressive setting of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school, where young women are groomed to become future wives under a regime that enforces obedience with harsh measures justified by divine decree. As they navigate this treacherous landscape, their growing bond becomes a pivotal force destined to challenge their past, present, and future.

Renowned actress Ann Dowd returns to bring her compelling portrayal of Aunt Lydia back to the screen, adding continuity and depth to the series. Alongside her, the series introduces viewers to a talented ensemble cast, including Chase Infiniti, known for “One Battle After Another,” who will take on the role of Agnes. Joining them are Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, and several other promising actors.

The trailer sets the stage by following Agnes, portrayed by Infiniti, as she navigates the seemingly serene yet perilous world of Gilead. Viewers are invited to delve deeper into the intricacies of this society, where every step is fraught with danger and every choice could lead to rebellion or ruin.

The trailer begins following Agnes (Infiniti) through a seemingly idyllic Gilead.

“Back then, we still believed in this world. I guess it’s easier to accept a story than believe that the people around you are monsters,” she narrates, until a darker version of Gilead is revealed.

Soon, Daisy (Halliday) shows up to school. She’s a new arrival from Canada, hoping to “save those girls” in Gilead. Agnes and Daisy’s bond starts to cause tension among the girls.

“There comes a time when you have to take action, when you have to choose your own destiny,” Daisy tells Agnes as drama unfolds and the stakes rise.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller returns. Executive producers are Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker. Barker directs the first three episodes and the finale.

In January, Hulu released a first look at the show through a series of images.

“The Testaments” premieres April 8 with three episodes, then weekly thereafter. The Hulu original series will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu, Disney+ and this ABC station.
