() As the search for the body of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro continues, sources have told ’s Brian Entin that Jake Haro, the boy’s father, spoke to an informant while in jail as part of a Perkins operation.

A Perkins operation is when an undercover officer or informant poses as an inmate to get information from someone incarcerated.

Sources told Entin that as the result of the Perkins operation, Haro acknowledged he killed baby Emmanuel and put his body in the trash.

At a news conference Wednesday, District Attorney Michael Hestrin said reporting about a “confession” was not true. But it’s unclear what Hestrin considers a legal confession.

Sources also told Entin that Haro initially told investigators he rolled over in bed, causing baby Emmanuel’s death, and that he said he buried the body. Sources say that is why Haro was taken from jail to lead investigators to a search area over the weekend.

Emmanuel Haro missing since Aug. 14

Rebecca Haro initially told police that Emmanuel was kidnapped Aug. 14 after she was knocked unconscious while changing his diaper in a parking lot in Southern California.

Investigators noted inconsistencies in the parents’ stories and arrested them Friday for murder and filing a false police report.

Court documents revealed that Emmanuel could have been killed as early as Aug. 5, as previously reported by .

Previous child abuse from Jake Haro

Jake Haro was given a suspended sentence for a 2018 child abuse case, allowing him to avoid prison. The child, Promise Faith, was severely injured at 10 weeks old and is now permanently bedridden.

“If that judge had done his job … Emmanuel would be alive today,” Hestrin said.

Officials believe Emmanuel was abused over time and died of his injuries.

Officials have a ‘strong indication’ of where the child’s remains are

During the news conference, officials stated they have a “strong indication” of where the baby’s remains are located and are confident in their ability to secure a conviction.

The couple are cooperating, on some level, with the investigation and their arraignment is set for Sept. 4.
