() A Southwest Airlines flight that departed from Sacramento was forced to land unexpectedly after concerns about engine failure Saturday morning.

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2301 made a non-emergency return to Sacramento International Airport to evaluate a possible engine issue,” Southwest officials told FOX40.com. “The aircraft landed uneventfully and taxied to the terminal, where customers were accommodated aboard another aircraft to Denver.”

Southwest added, “Southwest apologizes for any inconvenience. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”

The incident comes amid a slew of aircraft reports about downed planes and crashes. Most notably, On Jan. 29 a collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter killed everyone aboard both aircraft, 67 people. It was the deadliest plane crash in the U.S. since Nov. 12, 2001.

Two days later, on Jan. 31, a medical transport jet headed for Missouri and carrying a child patient and five others crashed in Northeast Philadelphia. All six people died and 19 others were injured.

Most recently, on Feb. 7, a plane operated by Bering Air was traveling from Unalakleet to Nome when it vanished, only to be found the next day. The remains of all 10 passengers were found.
