Special Education Teacher Accused of Booking Hotel Rooms for Sex With Teenage Student

A Minnesota special education teacher repeatedly rented hotel rooms to have sex with a student at the high school where she worked, according to court records.

Ann Margaret Bacon, 27, initially told investigators that her sexual relationship with the 18-year-old began in July 2023—about a month after he graduated from Tartan High School in Oakdale, near St. Paul, the Pioneer Press reported.

She later changed her account after investigators showed her a photograph of the pair together at a hotel. Authorities also learned that Bacon had purchased alcohol for other students who attended a gathering there.

Hotel records indicated that Bacon reserved a room at the same location at least four times: May 8, June 4, June 11 and over the Fourth of July holiday.

One witness said Bacon and the student were known to behave “secretively” around one another. Another witness told investigators that explicit images of the two were stored on his phone.

Witnesses also said Bacon supplied alcohol to underage students. The criminal complaint cited a $40 Venmo payment sent to her with the note “liqq.”

The student told investigators that he and Bacon had been in an exclusive relationship and that he had spent nights at her apartment.

Bacon ultimately acknowledged that the sexual relationship began while he was still enrolled at the school. She said it ended in July 2023, rather than beginning then as she had initially claimed.

Bacon was sentenced Monday to six months in jail after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a prohibited occupational relationship.
