SAN FRANCISCO — Grocer Sprouts Farmers Market recalled their “Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad” from stores across the country due to a possible Listeria contamination Wednesday.

The pasta salad was sold in Sprouts stores in: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration alert.

The pasta salad was sold in the “grab and go” and deli service case sections of Sprouts.

The recall alert encourages customers with the items to throw them away or initiate a return at their local store for a refund. The FDA also encourages customers limit cross contamination and prevent spread of Listeria by cleaning anything that came in contact with the product.

The impacted pasta salads were supplied by refrigerated goods distributor Fresh Creative Foods, who was also the supplier in Albertson’s recent pasta salad recall. The recall says the pasta in both goods also came from Nate’s Fine Foods.

Listeria infections can cause serious illness, particularly in older adults, people with weakened immune systems and those who are pregnant or their newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

Roughly 1,600 people in the U.S. get sick each year from listeria infections and about 260 die, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
