In Chicago, a significant change is taking place at Saint Sabina Church following a disturbing incident over the weekend. As a result, the church has decided to suspend its Sunday men’s basketball games.

The decision comes after a violent episode unfolded near the church, where three individuals were wounded in a shooting. The altercation reportedly stemmed from an argument during a basketball game, escalating into a tragic event.

Father Michael Pfleger, a leading figure at the church, emphasized the urgent need to identify and apprehend the shooter responsible for this violence. While the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of the incident.

For the time being, the suspension of the basketball games serves as a precautionary measure as the church focuses on ensuring the safety of its members and surrounding community.

For now, Sunday men’s basketball games at Saint Sabina Church are suspended.

Father Pfleger said the weekend shooting was captured on video and has since been turned over to Chicago police to help with their investigation.

Saint Sabina Church hopes this leads to an arrest soon.

“The reality is, three people were shot and it happened outside of our buildings and I take that very personal,” Fr. Pfleger said. “People know what we stand for here. We know how to feel about guns, about violence. And they disrespected, not just Sabina, but they violated a community that has worked really hard. Residents and police worked really hard to be safe around here.”

Father Pfleger said for their youth leagues they pat down and search bags before people come into the gym and they may have to rethink and start doing it for their adult leagues too.
