New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces serious legal charges, including felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery, following an alleged incident on December 2, as reported by Boston 25 News.

This development comes on the heels of the Patriots’ victory over the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football” the previous evening.

In a courtroom session on Tuesday, Diggs’ legal team requested that the police report be kept confidential. However, by late Tuesday morning, the judge had not yet made a decision on the matter, according to the news outlet.

The 32-year-old Diggs is scheduled for arraignment on January 23, just two days ahead of the anticipated AFC Championship game.

Currently, the Patriots hold the title of AFC East champions and are positioned as the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They have an opportunity to secure home-field advantage and the top seed overall as they approach Week 18.

Diggs has 82 catches for 970 yards and four touchdowns this season, and is coming off back-to-back 100-plus-yard efforts against the Ravens (10 catches, 138 yards) and Jets (six catches, 101 yards and one touchdown).

The 11th-year pro is dating rapper Cardi B.
