In a significant move towards expansion in the United States, Stellantis has announced plans to reopen its Belvidere, Illinois plant, backed by a substantial $13 billion investment.
The automaker’s decision to revive the facility, which had been shuttered since 2023, was unveiled earlier this year. Stellantis now plans to inject $600 million into the plant by 2027 to bolster production capabilities for the Jeep Cherokee and Compass models.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker praised the announcement, emphasizing its positive impact on the state’s workforce and economy. “Stellantis’ decision to bring back the Belvidere plant is a significant victory for Illinois workers and American manufacturing,” he stated. “The creation of 3,300 well-paying jobs speaks volumes about the talent and commitment of our workforce.
