Widely recognized in the realm of sports, Stephen A. Smith, a prominent ESPN figure, is on the cusp of capturing a broader audience, possibly extending his influence globally.

In a revealing discussion with Robert Costa, a national correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning” and CBS News’ chief Washington analyst, Smith unveiled his ambition to dive into politics. He is seriously contemplating a presidential bid for the 2028 election.

During the interview, Smith shared with Costa, “I will confess to you, I’m giving strong consideration to being on that debate stage for 2027,” hinting at his intentions to seek the Democratic nomination. He added, “I’ve got this year coming up, 2026, to think about it, to study, to know the issues.”

Known for his bold opinions and readiness to engage in debate, Smith has never been one to shrink from controversy. His forthrightness is a hallmark of his career, earning him a reputation for fearless commentary.

Interestingly, Smith is not alone in viewing his potential candidacy as a positive move. Others also believe his entry into the presidential race could be beneficial.

Last May, President Donald Trump publicly expressed his support for Smith in a 2028 presidential run.

“I love watching him. He’s got great entertainment skills, which is very important,” Trump, who called in during the NewsNation town hall, said of Smith. “People watch him. You know, a lot of these Democrats I watch, I say they have no chance. I’ve been pretty good at picking people and picking candidates. And I will tell you, I’d love to see him run.”

Time will tell what happens with Smith and 2028, but one thing is certain: There’s no way he is disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon.
