Social media was abuzz with videos capturing the significant police presence near the intersection of Yellowstone Drive and Kings Canyon Drive, illustrating the scale of the operation.
Residents observed officers outfitted in tactical gear carrying long guns. The operation also included a command vehicle and drones hovering overhead, adding to the high level of security and surveillance.
According to Streamwood police, the operation was aimed at apprehending a suspect located inside a residence. Details regarding the reason for the arrest and whether others were present in the home remain unclear at this time.
ABC7 observed video of police using a loudspeaker to try to communicate with the suspect.
Neighbors were told to stay indoors. ABC7 talked to one man who came home from work but couldn’t get to his house.
“It’s strange, because I have never experienced this in this neighborhood, like never,” Streamwood resident Eke Uduma said. “For the number of years I’ve been here, I have never experienced such incidents.”
Police blocked off a number of roads in the area, including an entrance to the subdivision at Lake Street and Elizabeth, and they have been asking people to stay away.
“More and more police just kept showing up, and it was like, wow, something really serious has got to be going on in there,” said Andrew Dvorak, who works nearby.
