Subway restaurants launch shocking new footlong product for $5

Subway’s latest limited-time item — Doritos Footlong Nachos — is drawing ridicule online, with customers calling it ‘sad’ and ’embarrassing.’

Launched Thursday across US locations, the $5 snack features nacho cheese-flavored Doritos topped.

It comes with cheese sauce, shredded cheese, jalapeños, tomatoes, red onions, and Baja Chipotle sauce.

Guests can also add chicken or steak and smashed avocado at no extra cost.

But many say struggling sandwich chain’s latest offering is not worth the hype — or the price.

A Reddit thread before the official launch accused Subway of serving ‘a crazy small amount of food for $5’.

Another  commenter wrote: ‘I’d rather go to Taco Bell and get the $3 nachos — more toppings and tastes better.’

The product was initially seen during test runs in Canada and the United States by a food influencer named Snackolator. This stirred enthusiasm on Instagram, although some people expressed doubt regarding its ingredients. One individual even made a jest suggesting that it could possibly include Subway’s well-known ‘imitation tuna.’

Since the release, reviews have stayed mixed.

‘It would be worth $5 if it wasn’t such a tiny bag of chips,’ one user wrote. Another added: ‘It looks like it was made incorrectly.’

Some were still open to trying it, with one fan noting it could be better if the tomatoes were chopped smaller.

A couple of responders claimed the Reddit user’s nacho item also looked like it was made ‘incorrectly.’

Subway has already gone through a major shakeup this year.

The struggling sandwich chain left customers boycotting its restaurants after ditching Coca-Cola products.

The change-up came after Subway entered a 10-year agreement with Pepsi.

As part of the deal, all US locations now serve Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Starry, Tropicana, Lipton, Gatorade and Aquafina.

Before then, Subway began suffering sales and profits slumps last year after being purchased by Roark Capital in 2023.

It also shuttered several stores last year, and 48 locations were at risk of closing after a franchisee filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

One of its latest blows was being replaced by Jersey Mike’s sandwich chain as the official NFL fast-food sponsor.

Subway had been the league’s official sponsor since 2020, prior to its competitor’s takeover.

The sandwich chain is continuing to plan for the future despite claims that it’s at risk of being acquired by Jersey Mike’s.

It’s in the process of rolling out its ‘Fresh Forward 2.0’ design to all its stores this year.

The design includes new elements like bold wall graphics with messages, elevated lighting, and support the growth in digital innovations.

Loyal customers gave positive feedback on the new design during concept testing last year.

In the coming months, ‘Fresh Forward 2.0’ will be implemented in all Subway worldwide.
