‘The View’s Sunny Hostin Blasts “Desperate” Lawsuit Against Her Husband And Decries “Media Smear Campaign”

Sunny Hostin is speaking out about her husband’s legal issues for the first time. The co-host of The View has responded to the insurance company’s allegations against Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, calling their lawsuit “frivolous” and stating that they do not have a valid case against him.

Dr. Hostin is facing accusations in a lawsuit filed on Dec. 17, 2024, by American Transit. The suit claims that he received kickbacks for surgeries and fraudulently billed the company, which provides insurance for taxi companies, Uber, Lyft drivers, and others. He is one of 200 defendants named in the lawsuit.

Sunny Hostin, who is known for her legal expertise on The View and previously worked as a federal prosecutor, released a statement to Page Six on Jan. 13, defending her husband and stating that he is innocent.

Sunny dragged American Transit for their “desperate attempt to avoid paying for medical and surgical  procedures for people it insured who were in pain” and said the company was taking advantage of her status as a public figure “to start a disgusting media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children.”

Sunny and her husband hired Mark Geragos as their attorney last week, per Page Six, and the lawyer sent a letter to American Transit stating that he would countersue them for $5 million unless they withdrew the case and apologized to the Hostin family.

In Sunny’s statement to the publication, she said the $5 million figure could grow. She stated, “We have put American Transit on notice and will file a five-million-dollar counter lawsuit for their defamatory claims, an amount that is likely to increase as the reputational damage that American Transit has intentionally caused is difficult to quantify at this time.”

William Natbony of law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, who is representing American Transit in the case, told Page Six that the company “commenced its lawsuit as part of its statutory responsibility to fight no-fault fraud which is rampant in New York.”

He added, “The allegations of the Complaint speak for themselves. With respect to any allegations by any defendant as to improper conduct by American Transit or its counsel, such assertions are emphatically denied as without basis.”

Last month, American Transit, an insurance company on the verge of bankruptcy, filed a frivolous civil lawsuit against my husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, and approximately  200 other doctors in a desperate attempt to avoid paying for medical and surgical  procedures for people it insured who were in pain. This company has a history of filing frivolous claims, has been investigated by New York State and has been sued by Uber Technologies.”

However, in an attempt to poison the well of public opinion because it does not have a valid case against my husband, American Transit instead used my celebrity status to start a disgusting media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children. They plastered pictures of our family all over tabloid publications.

American Transit is harassing me and my family in a frantic attempt to not pay its bills. Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain unbowed.

I have retained Mark Geragos as our attorney. My husband is also represented by Daniel Thwaites of Thwaites, Lundgren & D’Arcy an Oxford University Law School graduate, Rhodes Scholar and an expert in Civil Rico defense. We have put American Transit on notice and will file a five-million-dollar counter lawsuit for their defamatory claims, an amount that is likely to increase as the reputational damage that American Transit has intentionally caused is difficult to quantify at this time. Further, we demand that they  withdraw these false allegations, pay my husband what he is owed and issue a public apology.

Insurance companies like American Transit make an already broken healthcare system nearly impossible for Americans to navigate and get good healthcare by engaging in despicable tactics like harassing doctors.

Let me be clear, where I come from, American Transit will receive a PHD from FAFO University.”
