BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On Monday, the Birmingham Police Department announced the arrest of an individual in connection with a significant fire in Birmingham that ravaged three structures and left 20 residents homeless.
Responding to the emergency, crews from the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene on 13th Avenue at 20th Street South, near Cobb Lane, shortly before 6 a.m. on Halloween. The inferno, which is thought to have ignited in an abandoned home along the street, quickly engulfed two nearby apartment complexes and continued to burn for several hours.
Recently unsealed court documents reveal that 42-year-old Joshua Mitchell faces charges of second-degree arson for allegedly attempting to ignite a fire at the Big Escape Room, just a block away from the Cobb Lane incident. Authorities have also linked Mitchell to the fire on Cobb Lane.

Between 75 and 100 firefighters were deployed to battle the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
