JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Brunswick man has been arrested in connection to a 2023 shooting death in the Phoenix area of Jacksonville.

Lawrence Bell, 25, was incarcerated in Georgia on unrelated charges when he was arrested.

On July 27, 2023, officers discovered 23-year-old Christopher Griffin inside a home on Winthrop Street, police said. Officers responded at 3:30 a.m. and found the victim dead inside the home, in which he had suffered “at least one gunshot wound.”

The sergeant briefing the media in 2023 said the sheriff’s office knew the relationship of the suspect to the victim but did not release it at the time.

Detectives later identified Bell as the suspect and he was arrested Jan. 17. Charged with second-degree murder, he was extradited back to Jacksonville last week and is now in custody at the Duval County Jail.
