Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said the person of interest is a man who was seen with a blue bike “near the time the fires started” Wednesday.
HAMPTON, Fla. — Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith shared an update Thursday on an “outbreak of multiple fires” that happened in Hampton on Wednesday, saying in a Facebook post that a person of interest has been identified.
Smith said the fires broke out off of Southeast County Road 18, as firefighters from Bradford and Clay counties, along with the Florida Forest Service, contained and extinguished them.
“BCSO Detectives worked through the day and night to follow-up on an abundance of tips which poured in from helpful citizens,” Gordon said in the post. “Near the time the fires started, a witness observed a white male with a blue bicycle in the immediate area of a small fire that was beginning to spread.”
Smith stated that detectives are continuing to follow up on multiple leads as the investigation progresses.
“At this time, there is no information that would indicate that there is an active threat in the area, however we encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious or has information about the incident to contact BCSO Dispatch at 904-966-6161,” the post stated.
