A Pittsburgh pediatrician was killed and his wife hospitalized after they were stabbed during a home invasion at their residence in Edgewood, Pennsylvania, authorities said.
Allegheny County police arrested 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway of Pittsburgh. Court records show he has a criminal history in the county dating back to 2016. His latest previous arrest came in July in connection with a February burglary, according to the records.
He was released without bail in that case.

Authorities filed seven additional charges against Hemingway on Thursday, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and trespassing, in connection with the attack.
Investigators allege that Hemingway entered the victim’s home on Linden Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.

Dr. Idris Evans, 46, was pronounced dead at a hospital. His wife was reported to be in stable condition.
According to his University of Pittsburgh profile, Evans served as medical director of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and as an assistant professor of critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Evans’ wife told investigators that she and her husband awoke to a man attacking them in bed with a kitchen knife, according to court documents obtained by KDKA. She said the attacker was wearing only underwear and made a reference to “being God,” the outlet reported. She also told investigators that Evans called the attacker “Elijah,” suggesting he knew him.

The couple’s two children, ages 8 and 12, were inside the home when the attack occurred.
