Police said the victim and suspect were involved in an argument that escalated into a shooting Monday afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering and a suspect is in custody after a shooting on the city’s Northside Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said around 3 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6400 block of Restlawn Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located a man shot multiple times. The gunshot wounds were considered not life-threatening, according to police.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to the hospital, where he remains.

Police said a short time after the shooting, a man called police and identified himself as the shooter. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said the initial investigation found that an argument between the victim and the suspect escalated into a physical fight, which then ended in the suspect shooting the victim.

All parties involved have been identified and are speaking with investigators.

Crime scene detectives were on the scene collecting evidence, which blocked off Restlawn Drive for several hours.

Violence crime detectives canvassed the scene for witnesses and surveillance video.

Local Bert Buckman tells First Coast News he’s lived in the neighborhood for 20 years.

As he stook behind the police tape watching investigators canvass the scene, he expressed his disappointment with something like this happening in his community.

“When I came outside, I saw everything. I didn’t hear no sirens, but the police been monitoring this for the last two days. I’m just upset this kind of stuff going on this neighborhood and when you see this many people you know something is not right,” Buckman said.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500, email jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org or call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
