Taylor Swift recalls celebratory reaction to Chiefs drafting Xavier Worthy

Taylor Swift vividly remembered the excitement of running and shouting throughout her home when the Chiefs secured wide receiver Xavier Worthy in a trade with their AFC competitor, Buffalo, during the 2024 draft night.

In the much-anticipated episode of the “New Heights” podcast released on Wednesday, the famous singer — who had been announced as a “special guest” beforehand — talked about how her enthusiasm for football peaked last year, largely due to her boyfriend, Chiefs’ standout tight end Travis Kelce.

“I was clueless about what a first down meant, didn’t understand what the chains were, and had no idea what a tight end was,” Swift, 35, admitted, chuckling as Kelce expressed his gratitude for her newfound interest in the game. “I fell in love with it. It became my obsession.

“I became like a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’ And my friends are like, ‘Who body snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’”

Swift, who revealed that her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl” will drop Oct. 3, explained that she has great respect for NFL players and the pressure they endure in the sport.

“I definitely became obsessed with sports because of [Travis]. I’m competitive on his behalf,” Swift said.

“… I love this new world that Travis has shown me. It’s so fun, it’s so exciting, there is so much pressure on these players … the pressure on sports is such a different type that I have such respect for everyone, everyone on his team.”

Swift and Worthy met following the Chiefs’ 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game in January, where cameras caught Worthy’s reaction to seeing Swift on the field to celebrate with Kelce.

“Oh s—,” Worthy said to someone off camera as Swift was hugging Chiefs coach Andy Reid. “She’s taller than me.”

When asked about meeting Swift, Worthy said at the time that the singer asked him being getting drafted by the Chiefs.

The “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted by Travis and his older brother, Eagles legend Jason Kelce, nearly broke the internet Wednesday night.

The podcast glitched one hour and 44 minutes into the episode and went black, leaving more than one million people confused — and, of course, taking to social media to figure out what was happening.

It eventually returned, as the “New Heights” podcast said on X that YouTube helped resolve the matter.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Swift called out male sports fans for complaining she’s given too much TV time during Chiefs games.

Last month, Kelce dismissed a narrative that he and Swift are “trying to seek attention” by having date nights in the public eye, which included an appearance at the Stanley Cup Final in June.

Kelce and Swift have stayed under the radar this offseason following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl flop to the Eagles in February, a 40-22 defeat.

The All-Pro tight end has spent time training in Florida, and Swift said Wednesday that she joined him.

Kelce reportedly moved into a $20 million Florida mansion located in the exclusive Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club in April.
