LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — New video footage obtained by affiliate KLAS captures the immediate aftermath of a brawl between a Clark County substitute teacher and a student.

Re’Kwon Smith lost his job at Valley High School and was sentenced in January after pleading no contest.

“I ain’t do [expletive]. All I wanted to do is leave [expletive] class. That’s when that [expletive] starting swinging at me. What the [expletive] is up with that [expletive] bro,” the Valley High student, who was 18 at the time, told police on April 25 as he was inside a Valley High School office being treated for bruises to his face.

Video showed the substitute teacher punching the student multiple times and slapping the teen while he was down on the school floor.

Police were questioning the teen and teacher to figure out what happened.

“Bro, I didn’t do [expletive]. I ain’t do [expletive]. Bro, what is up with that [expletive]?” the teen said as police were questioning him and the teacher to figure out what happened.

“Relax man,” an officer said.

“I’m bleeding dog. What the [expletive] you want me to do?” the teen responded.

An officer was heard pleading with the teen saying, “Yo, chill out. Chill out. You’re not helping anything.”

Video from Valley High School’s hallway showed the moments right before the fight. Before any punches were thrown, Smith was seen walking away from the student but then stopped and walked towards him. Smith then started hitting him, the video showed.

“So he went through the wrong doors. I run. Go grab him. ‘You’re going through the wrong door. Come back this way. Come back this way,'” Smith said to an officer minutes after the fight. “‘What are you going to do [expletive]? What are you going to do [expletive]? You [expletive] [expletive] [expletive].'”

“Who?” an officer asked.

Smith responded, “The little kid.”

Smith was handcuffed a few minutes later and charged with misdemeanor battery.

“He lost consciousness briefly. Did you notice that?” an officer said.

“No I did not,” Smith said.

Smith was sentenced on Jan. 7 after pleading no contest which could result in either a misdemeanor or up to 180 days in jail if he faces any further legal issues, according to court documents.

While the teen told officers he did nothing wrong, Smith said the student used racist language.

“So, he called you a [expletive] and a [expletive]?” an officer said.

“[expletive] [expletive] [expletive],” Smith said.

“[expletive] [expletive] [expletive]r? With an hard ‘R’?” the officer said.

“Yes. I tried to de-escalate the situation plenty of times,” Smith said.

As he was being driven to the Clark County Detention Center from Valley High School, Smith told police his grandmother was a CCSD police officer for several years before she retired. He is barred from teaching in the district.

Smith has to check in with a Las Vegas Justice Court judge on April 7 to see if he’s complying with the conditions of his plea, which includes no contact with the victim, according to court records.
