A tear-jerking goodbye notice was ‘posted’ by a rescue dog in Pennsylvania asking neighbors to join his final walk as he battles terminal cancer.

Rescue dog Mellow was recently diagnosed with a lymphoma and his regular walks around his neighborhood with owner Kevin Curry are becoming increasingly harder.

With the cancer being terminal, Curry decided that for one last walk around the neighborhood in Dupont, Pennsylvania, he would ask his neighbors to come outside and pay their last respects.

Curry decided to post a notice, titled ‘Mellow’s Last Walk Around Dupont’, through the doors of neighbors who they frequently bump into on their strolls asking them to come out last Saturday.

Attached to the notice was a detailed map showing the route Mellow and Curry would be taking, as well as predicted location times for their stroll.

Curry penned the notice as if Mellow had did so himself, writing ‘thank you for making my life so good.’

Neighbor KJ Warunek told The New York Post: ‘It is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story.

‘There were at least 25 people [on the first block]. When I looked to the next block, there was another 20. I’m going to say that was how the whole walk went.’

Speaking with The Citizens Voice, Curry said: ‘I got Mellow seven years ago and unfortunately last month he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

‘Everyday we go through two walks in the neighborhood, we got to know a lot of people who live in the neighborhood

‘I decided he should have one last ceremonial walk around town, so we dropped off letters to let them know we are going to walk around the neighborhood.’

Other neighbors are also seen petting Mellow and he is pictured with his owner Kevin in another.

The notice said: ‘My name is Mellow and I have been living in Dupont since September 2019 with my owner Kevin.

‘Some neighbors may have pet me or given me treats before while others I may only know through their own dogs who say hello me as we pass by.

‘Regardless of how well we know each other, you have made my life so much richer than any rescue dog could have hoped for.

‘I am so grateful to have such caring neighbors and live in a community that looks out for one another so well.

‘I have definitely slowed down throughout the years and unfortunately that is why you are receiving this letter.

‘I was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and will be leaving for doggie heaven in June.

‘I’m not sure exactly when I will go, but each day over the past few weeks has been a struggle for me to get around the neighborhood like I am used to.

‘Therefore, while I still can, I will be marching around the neighborhood on Saturday June 3rd from 7-8PM and would love to say goodbye to you face-to-face if you are available.

‘Come out to pat me on the head or rub my belly and I will be forever grateful (I love people after all).

‘I put a map of our walk on the back and the times I think I may pass by your house (I may be slower though so apologies if I am late).

‘As for my owner, once I pass on, he probably won’t go for as many walks as we do now and so you may not see him around as often.

‘I know he will miss seeing you all, and especially the other pets in the neighborhood, as much as I will.

‘Thanks again for all the love you have shown me the last 4 years! Hope to see you Saturday and thank you for making my life so good!’
