CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) — Late Sunday evening witnessed a disturbing event in Center Point when a juvenile was wounded by gunfire.
At approximately 8:57 p.m., deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office made their way to the 800 block of Farrington Drive responding to a call about a person being shot. Upon arrival, they discovered the young victim.
Emergency responders from the Center Point Fire District provided immediate medical care at the scene before transporting the juvenile to Children’s of Alabama for further treatment.
The preliminary investigation by the JCSO indicated that the shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and a suspect. With descriptions of the suspect in hand, deputies soon located the suspect’s vehicle and were able to apprehend the individual during a subsequent traffic stop.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Jayden Hill, faces charges of first-degree assault. He was briefly held at the Jefferson County Jail before being released on bail.
“Great job by our patrol deputies,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said in a statement. “Our citizens stepped up and gave us crucial information that helped to take this armed suspect into custody without anyone else getting hurt. Another wonderful example of how law enforcement and citizens work together towards a common goal.”
