BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A teen was arrested Wednesday after the Glynn County Police Department said he left a handgun unattended, resulting in a 3-year-old shooting and injuring himself in December.
The 3-year-old sustained minor injuries to the hand, police said. A 17-year-old male was charged with child cruelty, reckless conduct and possession of a handgun.
Detectives spotted the teen at a business in the 3000 block of Altama Avenue and attempted to arrest the suspect on his outstanding warrants. The teen fled from the detectives but was arrested shortly after surrendering to authorities.
Police said they retrieved a handgun that he had thrown onto a roof while trying to flee. He was taken to the Glynn County Detention Center.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
