A startling discovery in Halloween candy left a teenager from Indy’s East Side shocked this week.

Kaitlyn O’Conner, aged thirteen, uncovered a needle embedded in one of her candy bars.

On Friday night, Kaitlyn participated in the annual trick-or-treating festivities with her family in Irvington, following their usual Halloween tradition.

Kaitlyn’s mother had inspected some of the candy the previous night, leading them to believe it was safe.

However, on Saturday morning, Kaitlyn bit into a small candy bar and was horrified when a needle pierced the roof of her mouth.

She was medically cleared, and police took the needle and candy for further examination. 

“I was mad and then sad because I didn’t expect nice people who live there to do that sort of thing,” Kaitlyn said. “I never met someone who is that mean.”

Meanwhile, her dad is encouraging people to check their Halloween candy before consuming it.

“Just in case. Because if she got a needle, it’s more than likely there’s more than that out there now,” Tom O’Conner said.

The family filed a police report.

The Food and Drug Administration recommends checking all candy before eating it. And only accept commercially wrapped candy.
