OAKLEAF PLANTATION, Fla. — A Jacksonville 18-year-old is facing attempted murder charges after a minor was shot near soccer fields in Oakleaf Plantation Friday evening, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5:45 p.m., police said a minor was shot near Silver Bluff Boulevard and Plantation Oaks Boulevard. The victim was shot in the arm, and his injuries were not life-threatening.

Deputies arrested Behrend Ludwig, 18, of Jacksonville following an “extensive investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a release Saturday.

“I want to personally thank our deputies and detectives for their tireless efforts in this investigation,” said Sheriff Michelle Cook. “I also want to express my gratitude to the community members who provided crucial information—your willingness to come forward played a vital role in swiftly identifying and apprehending the individual responsible.”

There were approximately 30 people at the soccer field when police arrived.

The sheriff’s office said the victim and suspect knew each other and were involved in an altercation before the shooting.

Ludwig was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder.

“This reckless and senseless act of violence endangered the lives of innocent children and families,” said Cook. “Let me be clear—this kind of criminal behavior has no place in Clay County, and we will continue to work relentlessly to ensure our community remains safe.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512 or via the Safer Watch App. Anyone can also remain anonymous by calling First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
