An 18-year-old woman has been taken into custody following an incident where she allegedly threw a drink at a police officer during a protest against ICE in North Carolina.

Emily Cervantes Ramos was apprehended after a widely circulated video appeared to show her launching a large fountain drink at an unidentified male officer from the Kannapolis Police Department. She was subsequently pursued, tackled, and handcuffed.

This tense event occurred around midday on Friday, as approximately 75 students from A.L. Brown High School, including Ramos, exited their classes to demonstrate against ICE activities in nearby Charlotte.

The protest unfolded in downtown Kannapolis, located roughly 30 minutes from Charlotte, as confirmed by Kannapolis Communications Director Annette Keller in an interview with the Salisbury Post.

Authorities were dispatched to the scene to “ensure everyone’s safety,” according to Keller. She noted that while most students were demonstrating peacefully, the situation escalated unexpectedly.

Footage shared online showed a white male police officer standing in the middle of a sidewalk as a group of people shouted at him.

The group could be heard repeatedly cursing and screaming at him as the officer just stood quietly, making faces at times.

‘You not even an officer, you just a no life a** b****,’ one girl was heard yelling at the cop.

They continued to shout when all of a sudden Ramos came up behind him and smashed a large drink on the top of his head.

The crowd then screamed in shock as the officer immediately ran after the long-haired girl.

The group quickly followed behind as many of them screamed at the top of their lungs and ran across the street.

Footage then showed the male officer handcuffing Ramos, dressed in blue jeans and black t-shirt.

Other officers soon surrounded the area as the cop involved continued to arrest Ramos.

‘That’s what you get you f***ing d***head,’ a man recording the incident shouted at the cop as he tried to control Ramos who was seen squirming on the pavement.

‘She didn’t even do nothing,’ another woman was heard saying.

The officer involved then took Ramos, whose arms were seen awkwardly bent behind her back, away as protestors screamed.

A man shouted: ‘F** you! F*** you!,’ as the cop walked away with Ramos.

Another chimed in: ‘Yo, fix her arms! Fix her arms!’

Ramos was charged with assault on a government official and two counts of resisting public officers. She has since been released.

Following her arrest, a GoFundMe page, which has since been deleted, was launched to help her family who experienced a ‘heavy burden’ after she was taken into custody.

According to the page, which has circulated online, the incident unfolded ‘when an officer intervened aggressively, snatching a bullhorn from a young girl and dragging her to the ground.’

‘It was one of the most distressing things many of us have ever witnessed, and it should never have happened to someone peacefully exercising their rights,’ the page read, referring to Ramos’ arrest.

No one else was arrested, but according to Keller, three driving citations were issued throughout the protest.

No injuries, weapons or property damage were reported in connection to the demonstration, according to the Salisbury Post.

‘We believe in every individual’s first amendment rights but if any person’s actions become illegal in situations such as these, we have no choice but to take appropriate action in order to protect the people and property of our city,’ Kannapolis Police Chief Kerry Spry told the outlet.

The Daily Mail contacted the Kannapolis Police Department, Keller and Bret Butch, the principal of A.L. Brown High School, for comment.

The incident comes as more than 250 migrants have been arrested in Charlotte and 30,000 students have been absent from school following Border Patrol descending on the city.

A bloodied migrant was seen being arrested in The Queen City on Wednesday as part of the federal agency’s task force called Operation Charlotte’s Web, which specifically targets ‘criminal illegal aliens who flocked to the Tar Heel State,’ the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

The agency said illegal migrants have made their way into the U.S. state ‘because they knew sanctuary politicians would protect them and allow them to roam free on American streets.’

Soon after he was taken into custody, ICE agents made their way to a local Home Depot parking lot in the city.

A group of anti-ICE protestors met the officers there as they questioned shoppers outside the home improvement store.

One male activist was seen shouting at Border Patrol agents and filming them while others held up signs that read ‘ICE out of Home Depot protect our communities.’

Others, including former Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts, held up signs saying ‘We stand with migrants.’

Charlotte’s current Mayor Vi Lyles has shared a similar message to residents as she’s taken to social media in recent days to speak to the public about the increased presence of ICE agents.

‘First and foremost, the rights and constitutional protections of every person in Charlotte—regardless of immigration status—must be upheld,’ Lyles post on X Monday.

She added: ‘Our city has a long-standing commitment to fairness, dignity, and justice. I am deeply concerned with many of the videos I’ve seen, and I urge all agencies operating here to conduct their work with respect for those values.’

In addition to North Carolina, President Donald Trump’s administration plans to ‘surge’ Louisiana with Border Patrol agents and armored vehicles in its latest escalation against illegal immigration.

Internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documents obtained by CBS News revealed that Border Patrol agents will be deployed to Charlotte before shifting to New Orleans to take a leading role in ICE operations across both cities.

Along with Operation Charlotte’s Web, the name of the task force in New Orleans is called Catahoula Crunch – both titles officials chose to reference the children’s novel and Louisiana’s official state dog, according to the documents.
