JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A drug deal gone wrong in Jacksonville’s Sandalwood neighborhood led to a tragic shooting incident on Friday night, leaving one teenager dead and two others wounded, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Sergeant Highfill stated that police were dispatched to the 2200 block of Mareeba Road East following reports of gunfire at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Friday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a teenager on the road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, another teen with a single gunshot wound, and a man inside a vehicle at the same location with several gunshot injuries.
Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were called to the scene and transported the three victims to a nearby hospital, where unfortunately, one succumbed to their injuries.
“What we know now is that all of the victims were engaged in some sort of drug transaction, which deteriorated into the parties exchanging gunfire,” Highfill told First Coast News. “The parties’ relationships are unknown. This is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public. Multiple witnesses are being interviewed, and they are cooperating with the investigation.”
