Having been a witness to more than a hundred years of history in Beaumont, Texas, Dorothy Daniels now has a day named in her honor. November 13 has officially been declared “Dorothy Daniels Day.”

BEAUMONT, Texas — Celebrating a remarkable milestone, Dorothy Daniels, a cherished local of Beaumont, marked her 100th birthday this Thursday amidst family and friends at her Goliad Street residence. Her life story intertwines with many pivotal events that have shaped the city throughout the decades.

Born on November 13, 1925, in Beaumont, Daniels has called the same house home since 1955. Her family organized a festive gathering to commemorate her centennial, and Beaumont’s Mayor, Roy West, officially recognized the day as “Dorothy Daniels Day.”

Throughout her lifetime, Daniels has experienced both the highs and lows of Beaumont’s history. She remembers the tumult of race riots, the global upheaval of World War II, and the evolution of her community over the years.

For Daniels, raising her six children stands out as one of her most cherished accomplishments. She attributes her impressive longevity to her unwavering faith and a heart full of gratitude.

“My really, really blessed feelings being able to still be in my house. I’m not bedridden, and there’s a lot of things I can do,” Daniels said. “But I really just got to count my blessings. My kids have made it real possible for me to stay at home.”

She added that her key to a long life has been trusting God’s plan.
