How Prince Louis has forged a special bond with his grandparents

The bond between grandparents and grandchildren is always special – and for Prince Louis, that connection has only deepened over the past year.

Following her cancer diagnosis, the Princess of Wales is currently recuperating, and during this challenging time, her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, have been a crucial source of support for both their daughter and her young family.

It’s thought that Louis (who turns seven today) has formed an especially close relationship with his maternal grandparents during this challenging time.

Carole and Michael have been a constant presence, helping to maintain a sense of normality for George, Charlotte and Louis.

Carole has frequently accompanied Kate on school drop-offs, while the children have enjoyed regular sleepovers at their grandparents’ home as their mother recuperated.

When Kate released her emotional video message announcing she had completed her chemotherapy, her parents were seen in touching footage playing cards with the children – a glimpse into the support surrounding the family behind the scenes.

Louis’s affection for his grandparents was also on display during last year’s Westminster Abbey carol concert, where he was spotted holding a handwritten note that read: ‘Thank you for granny and grandpa because they have played games with me.’

He added the note to the ‘kindness tree’, an initiative inviting guests to share messages of gratitude.

The event marked an important public outing for the Wales family – the first time William and Kate had appeared with all three children since Trooping the Colour earlier that year.

As always, the family presented a united front, stepping out in colour-coordinated outfits that subtly showcased their close bond.

From bike rides to games and baking sessions, Michael and Carole have provided a strong and loving presence in their grandchildren’s lives.

But Louis’s bond with his grandfather goes beyond shared activities – MailOnline readers have also noted the striking similarities between the pair, commenting on their shared features and mannerisms.

They’ve been seen making the same expressions, from smiling and yawning to even throwing their heads into their hands.

In recent years, Charles is said to have privately expressed his frustration that he doesn’t get to see as much of his grandchildren as the Middleton family, a claim his aides have always furiously dismissed.

In a documentary marking Charles’s 70th birthday, William said he wished his workaholic father could spend more time with George, Charlotte and Louis.

Charles was described as a ‘brilliant’ grandfather who will happily crawl along the floor, making silly noises with his grandchildren.

Camilla added: ‘He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know making funny noises and laughing, and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him.

‘He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices and I think children really appreciate that.’ Aides say Charles could not be prouder to be a grandfather.

During the Platinum Pageant in 2022, William was seen leaning over Camilla to ask Charles: ‘Grandpa, can Louis sit on your knee?’ Charles warmly replied: ‘Of course.’

Louis looked thrilled to sit on his grandfather’s lap during the concert, beaming as Charles gently rocked him from side to side.

With his cheeky personality, Louis has undoubtedly charmed both sets of grandparents.

The young royal, well known for his playful antics, often steals the show at public events.

At his mother’s annual Christmas carol concert in Westminster Abbey, he was caught blowing out Charlotte’s candle, leaving his sister in stitches.

He has also made headlines on the Buckingham Palace balcony, where during Trooping the Colour 2023, he broke into a dance and gave a spirited military-style salute.

Later, as the royal fly-past roared overhead – just as he had done the year before -Louis was seen shouting and dramatically covering his ears.

Not only has he won over his grandparents, but Louis – who turns seven today – has also captured the hearts of the nation with his mischievous yet relatable nature.
