() The Defense Department is blaming artificial intelligence for the removal of content from its websites, including pages with information on the Holocaust, September 11, sexual assault and cancer awareness.

Government websites have been instructed to move any material related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as part of a larger anti-DEI push by the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump has been an outspoken critic of DEI and has claimed that it has weakened the military.

His administration has mandated government agencies cease any DEI efforts, laid off workers involved in such programs and ordered references to diversity and inclusion scrubbed from websites.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said content that was removed is being reviewed and that any content inappropriately or maliciously removed would be restored.

Parnell called the Biden administration’s DEI efforts “destructive” and pointed to AI tools as to why some content was “inappropriately” pulled offline.

“History is not DEI,” Parnell said.

There have been similar issues during purges at other agencies, with a judge ordering the restoration of public health and science-related content that was removed.
