America's DIRTIEST city revealed... and it's not NYC

America’s dirtiest city has been revealed and it’s not the one you might think!

If you believed that New York City, known for its large rat population, 8 million residents, and fast-paced lifestyle, would be the dirtiest city, you would be mistaken.

Similarly, if you thought Los Angeles, with its high number of homeless encampments and issues with drugs, would top the list, you would be wrong – although it did come in fourth place.

The real winner for filthy city – based on 311 sanitation complaints – is Baltimore, Maryland.

The city of 565,000 had more than 47,000 complaints per 100,000 residents issued to 311 about cleanliness, according to House Fresh

Once known as one of the most dangerous places in the US, the city is plagued by crime and poverty.

Second on the list is Sacramento, California, where 34,186 complaints per 100,000 residents were call in to the 311 line.

City officials, however, have an explanation. They informed House Fresh that they encourage all residents to contact 311 for various service requests, such as waste collection, reporting damaged bins, and initiating new services.

If you thought New York City - famous for its rats, 8million residents, and on-the-go lifestyle would put the Big Apple above the rest when it comes to filth - you'd be wrong

Despite that, a city of 526,000 is bound to have a few dirty streets here and there.

Third on the list is Charlotte, North Carolina, which pulled in 31,112 complaints, according to House Fresh.

Memphis, Tennessee, pulled in fifth place.

As for the Empire State’s biggest city, NYC ranked 17th, beating out LA, Boston, Nashville, and Chicago for major metropolitans.

Despite being the biggest US city, New Yorkers take minding their business to a whole new level with only 3,728 sanitation complaints per 100,000 residents.

Brooklyn residents are dealing with the most filth in the city, as the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood is home to the dirtiest zip code in the Big Apple.

New York may rank lower than expected due to its recent sanitation efforts, such as trash can with lids that Mayor Eric Adams rolled out last summer.

Sacramento officials have an excuse, as officials told House Fresh that it encourages all residents to call 311 for any service request, such as a collection services, reporting broken lids, and starting service

The cleanest zip code was found in the Houston area, with only 19 residents in 77546 making a complaint. The zip code includes parts of Houston, Friendswood, and League City.

Two other Houston zip codes – 77070 and 77014 – also had low complaint rates at 33 and 36 per 100,000 residents.

Meanwhile, Baltimore holds six of the most filthy zip codes – 21213, 21223, 21216, 21217, 21205, and 21218.
