Ranking the best Jets, Giants head coaches ever

On one side of the city, there’s a newly appointed coach, Aaron Glenn. On the other side, a long-standing coach is envisioning a new beginning and a promising future. If I were Brian Daboll, I would do the same because, if the Giants weren’t extremely reluctant to dismiss yet another coach, we’d likely see Ben Johnson, Kellen Moore, or another up-and-comer joining the New York football coaching scene.

To put it simply: Being a coach at these teams hasn’t always been straightforward. Thirty-eight individuals have coached the Jets and Giants for at least 10 games each. Here’s a personal ranking from 1 to 38. I suspect the top spots will be difficult to contest, but this is sports—where passionate debates are what fuel our love for the game.

1. Bill Parcells

The person topping this list might have earned his place even without his three-year stint with the Jets, but that certainly solidifies his position. He achieved victories in 62 percent of his games with the Giants and 60 percent with the Jets (holding a franchise record), and boasts two Super Bowl wins with the Giants and near success with the Jets. Clearly, there’s no other option here.

2. Tom Coughlin

Two Super Bowls titles and 110 wins for the Giants, second in team history, and he’ll join Parcells in Canton some year soon.
