PHILADELPHIA — Beyond Fangraphs’ surprisingly positive evaluation of the erratic Mets’ playoff chances — where they now stand at 93.6 percent — there are genuine reasons to feel optimistic about their chances in the World Series today.
The most evident reason is the trio of talented young pitchers that the Mets’ management called up out of necessity (and because of their impressive minor league stats). This promising group comprising Jonah Tong, Brandon Sproat, and especially the spin wizard Nolan McLean is not only expected to maintain their playoff position but may also form the core of a viable postseason rotation, given that the core of the original veteran starting lineup almost seems exhausted.
But here’s the other big reason. The National League ain’t what it was cracked up to be.
Yep, sorry about that.
