The risk Mets are running relying on promising rookie starters

The Mets have every reason to be excited about the progress and breakout performances of Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong, not to mention the potential impact of Brandon Sproat in the future. However, there is an aspect that might concern them in the immediate future.

It’s still unclear if McLean and Tong will be part of the postseason rotation, assuming the Mets secure their spot in October. As for Tong, the only certainty is that he will have a second start.

What is clear is, firstly, the Mets’ surprising reliance on rookie pitchers despite their substantial financial capabilities, and secondly, the rarity of teams having two rookie starters in the postseason, even more so ones that achieve significant success with this setup.

One, as you already know, is the 2015 Mets, who had Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz as part of their rotation on their way to the National League pennant.
