A new Simpsons movie has officially been confirmed – igniting both excitement and fear across the globe.

The sequel film is currently slated for release on July 23, 2027, which will mark two decades since the original launched in 2007.

Twentieth Century Studios shared thrilling updates on social media, displaying an image of Homer’s fist gripping a classic pink glazed donut adorned with number two sprinkles.

‘Woohoo! The Simpsons are coming to theaters with an all-new movie on July 23, 2027!’ they said.

Fans are already going crazy for the announcement, with many celebrating the news.

On X, previously known as Twitter, an excited fan wrote: ‘Whoohoo! I can’t I’m incredibly excited this is one of my most anticipated movies coming up I grew up with the show and especially the movie I’m so stoked.’

‘It only took 20 years, great job,’ another said.

A fourth joked: ‘Just fell to my knees in the Kwik-E-Mart.’

Others have been skeptical – and have speculated that this could mark the beginning of the end of the long-running show.

‘They said in 2007 that they would only do another film to end the series,’ one pointed out. ‘Maybe that time has come.’

‘This has gotta be the end of The Simpsons,’ another predicted.

‘Close the series strong with it?’ a third asked.

Twentieth Century Studios have not yet announced further details about the film.

The last Simpsons Movie arrived in cinemas in July 2007 and made over $536 million worldwide.

It starred Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, and Hank Azaria in their iconic roles.

The first film hit cinemas in 2007 and followed Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie as their hometown of Springfield is quarantined by the EPA due to Homer irresponsibly polluting the town's lake

The original film debuted in cinemas in 2007, featuring Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie as their hometown of Springfield becomes quarantined by the EPA when Homer carelessly contaminates the town’s lake.

Fans will remember how at the end of the film, Maggie’s first word was ‘sequel?’

The Simpsons TV show began in 1989 and is currently airing its 37th series.

Co-created by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Sam Simon, the cartoon follows Homer, Marge, and their children Bart, Maggie and Lisa, who live in the town of Springfield.

In recent years, The Simpsons has seen some changes.

In 2024, it was announced actress Pamela Hayden, 71, was retiring from the animated Fox series after 35 years as Milhouse Van Houten, one of Bart Simpson’s friends known for his nerdy antics.

He is also particularly known for his long crush on Lisa, Bart’s younger sister.

Pamela – who provided vocals on 695 episodes of the show, as well as in multiple video games and the 2007 film – said the show’s producers were supportive of her in her decision to depart and volunteered to throw her a party.

‘It was a tough decision, but I feel like it was the right one,’ she told Variety. ‘How many actors can say they’ve worked on a show for 35 years straight? That alone is amazing.’

She was replaced by Kelly Macleod who is the lead singer of female-fronted rock band Private Life.
