The audience at “The View” was left in disbelief when one of the show’s hosts broke ranks to defend former President Trump’s decision to arrest Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, diverging from the typically liberal perspectives of her fellow panelists.

During the morning broadcast, the talk show opened with discussions surrounding the surprising capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3. Ana Navarro, one of the co-hosts and a native of Nicaragua, expressed her emotional reaction, revealing that she had tears of joy over the news.

While Navarro is a Republican, she has been a frequent critic of Trump. She explained why many in the Hispanic community are celebrating the removal of Maduro, a dictator. However, her remarks were interrupted by co-host Sunny Hostin, who questioned, “Are you okay with the way it was done?”

Navarro responded without hesitation, emphasizing that it is possible to celebrate the event while still questioning the methods used in Maduro’s extraction from his home in Caracas.

“I believe both perspectives can coexist,” Navarro stated. “You can critique, question, and express concerns about the manner in which it was executed and the implications for the future. At the same time, you can celebrate that this murderous, corrupt, sadistic individual is no longer in Venezuela.”

The crowd erupted in applause as Hostin repeatedly said ‘yeah’ as Navarro spoke.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg had also asked ‘who voted for this?’ to which Navarro replied: ‘The people of South Florida, the Venezuelan community, the Cuban American community, the Nicaraguan American community voted for this.

‘And for us, this is a very, very happy day when we see a dictator who has been part of oppressing and abusing the Venezuelan people for 25 years,’ she added.

‘When we see him in handcuffs and held to some sort of accountability, it brought me to tears. It brought me great joy.’

Despite praising that Maduro was ousted, she was quick to note that she was deeply disturbed that Trump said that María Corina Machado was not respected by the people of Venezuela, despite many seeing her as the rightful leader following Maduro’s fraudulent election win.

Hostin took aim at how Maduro was captured, calling it illegal for the Trump administration to extract the dictator because it ‘violated international law’.

‘The US government killed over 100 people, including civilians and military, in Venezuela during this kidnapping and capture, and international law doesn’t allow it unless Congress declares war, and Congress did not do that,’ said Hostin.

Additionally, Navarro fired at the president, saying his actions were not out of concern for the liberation of the Venezuelan people.

Regarding the comments made on The View, White House spokesman Anna Kelly told Entertainment Weekly in a statement: ‘Over 60 countries around the world held that Nicolás Maduro was an illegitimate ruler… the Biden administration had a reward for information leading to his arrest.’

Kelly added that only President Trump had the strength and courage to actually arrest Maduro for allegedly committing narcoterrorism against the US.

‘Liberal pundits will flip-flop on anything – even holding criminal drug lords accountable – to attack President Trump, but the President will always protect our homeland and put the American people first,’ added the statement.

The discussion occurred on the same day as Maduro’s hearing at the federal court in Manhattan, where a judge told the dictator to stop talking midway through a rant about how he had been ‘kidnapped’ by US forces.

Maduro walked into courtroom 26A wearing a blue T-shirt with an orange T-shirt underneath and tan issue prison pants.

His hands were cuffed behind him, and they were released as he walked into the court through a side door: his legs were shackled.

His wife, Cilia Flores, 69, was wearing similar clothes and was also shackled, sitting on the same bench with a pained expression on her face.

Maduro and his wife both pleaded not guilty. During his plea, Maduro said: ‘I am innocent. I am not guilty. I am a decent man. I am still President of Venezuela.’

Flores identified herself as the ‘First Lady of Venezuela’ and said she was ‘completely innocent’.
