Legendary rock band The Who has kicked out long-time drummer Zak Starkey after a “huge fallout,” according to reports.

The Who’s lead singer, Roger Daltrey, who is 81 years old, and guitarist Pete Townshend, aged 79, decided to part ways with Starkey. Starkey is the son of Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles. This decision was made after The Who performed two shows in March at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK. The band’s spokesperson informed The Sun about this development on Tuesday.

“The band made a collective decision to part ways with Zak after this round of shows at the Royal Albert Hall,” the spokesperson said.

“They have nothing but admiration for him and wish him the very best for his future.”

The two legendary rockers were allegedly “upset” with Starkey, 59, following the March 27 and 30 shows to raise money for Daltrey’s charity Teenage Cancer Trust, which saw A-listers, including actors Bill Murray, Sadie Frost, Tracy-Ann Oberman, and famed hypnotist Paul McKenna, in attendance.

A source aware of the situation also reportedly told the Mirror that the drummer was blindsided and upset over being kicked out of the group.

“It’s a little acrimonious to say the least,” the source told the outlet.

The source said that during the two charity shows, Daltrey raised some “issues” with his play that were below the band’s standards.

“[A] few issues with the drumming….and the standard wasn’t as high as everyone wanted,” the source said.

But, the source said it’s hard to see how The Who canned Starkey over two bad shows.

“He is an extremely talented drummer and it doesn’t make any sense,” the source told the Mirror.

However, Metro reported that Daltrey had gotten upset that Starkey was “overplaying” during the band’s gigs in late March.

“To sing that song I do need to hear the key, and I can’t. All I’ve got is drums going boom, boom, boom. I can’t sing to that. I’m sorry guys,” Daltrey said to the crowd at the March 30 show, according to Metro.

The drummer’s apparent dismissal from the band comes after he suffered from a blood clot in his leg and took a short break from his other band, Mantra of the Cosmos, back in January, the Mirror reported.

Starkey had been The Who’s full-time drummer since 1996 when he was introduced to fans during their Quadrophenia Tour.

He performed with the band at some of their most note-worthy shows in recent years, including the London 2012 Olympics and the 2010 Super Bowl.

Keith Moon, the band’s original drummer, passed away in 1978 at the age of 32. The Who’s original bassist, John Entwistle, died in 2002 at 57. Both deaths were related to drug use.

The son of The Beatles’ drummer also joined another iconic British band, Oasis, in 2004 after their drummer Alan White left the group.

Starkey’s firing wasn’t the only stunning news from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band’s Royal Albert Hall shows last month.

Daltrey revealed to the crowd during their March 27 gig that he is slowly going deaf and blind.

“The joys of getting old mean you go deaf. I also now have got the joy of going blind,” Daltrey said.

“Fortunately, I still have my voice,” he quipped, “because then I’ll have a full Tommy.”

Tommy is the name of the main character from The Who’s 1969 album-turned-rock opera of the same name.

He is not only deaf and blind but also mute.
